About M&W

Back at the start the Company evolved from very modest beginnings - sharing a small corner of a yard in Cradley which was owned by Gardner Steels. This was back in the days when heavy industry, especially steel, was prolific in the area.

This area was, and still is, known as The Black Country. It was an area of a thousand trades – many of which were concerned with steel, manufacturing, engineering and heavy industry. In those days firms thrived on their inherent ability to solve the various problems thrown up by manufacturing processes.

This canny, savvy way of working became synonymous with the Black Country area and was sometimes jokingly referred to as ‘The Black Art’. Even today there are the same traits evident in the modern M and W Contractors and the ability to think out of the box is built into the family DNA. The Company began, at that time, to develop an enviable reputation and began to grow. Staff were taken on and bigger, more complex projects followed.

Thus, it was decided to incorporate the firm and, on 18th of March 1974, the Company of M and W Contractors (Pensnett) Ltd was formed. A move to bigger premises in Lye, Stourbridge followed, in due course, and here the success of the company was continued. Now an established name the Company expanded the geographic area of endeavour and began to acquire a client bank which spans the UK.

And, inevitably, it was again time to move. This time the family paid careful attention to the premises that they needed to move forward. They decided upon the current premises in Kingswinford since the premises were well suited to the style of fabrication required and the geographic location was ideal. Which brings us right up to date.
